BERKLEY MANUFACTURES 3 TYPES OF MOLDED FIBER IN HOUSE.

We start every project by listening. We pride ourselves on being able to consult our customers to determine the best type of molded fiber for their specific application and needs.

Once we determine molded fiber and our manufacturing is a good fit, we can then begin to work with your budget and price out options on our different machine capabilities. With an idea of annual usages and monthly order quantities, material and surface finish requirements, we can finalize pricing for our customers.

Our design and engineering team works in SolidWorks to develop 3D data so we can turn concepts into prototypes. Once samples are approved, the article design is finalized and we would move into the tooling design and manufacturing phase.

Type 2 - Traditional

Water and recycled fibers - including newsprint, corrugated and other specialty fibers – are combined in a vat resembling a large blender to create a slurry where the paper fibers are suspended in water

The slurry is pumped into the forming station. Screened and vented tooling is lowered into the slurry tank. A vacuum pump is activated and draws the slurry through the screen trapping the fibers onto the screen. The water is pumped back into a holding tank be used again later. The formed fibers are transfered onto a conveyor and dried in a precisely controlled oven.

Product comes out of the molds dry and ready for shipping. Traditional Fiber has a wall thickness of 1.0-3mm and is a great choice for heavy parts.

Type 2 - Pressed Traditional

The same water/ fiber slurry is made in the pulper

The parts are formed and dired in the same equipment as Traditional Fiber, but then transfered to an automated pressing station.

Product comes out of the Pressing station with an improved surface finish, dimensional tolerance and is ready for shipping.

Type 3 - Thermoformed

The same water/ fiber slurry is made in the pulper

The slurry is pumped into the forming station. Screened and vented tooling is lowered into the slurry tank. A vacuum pump is activated and draws the slurry through the screen trapping the fibers onto the screen. The water is pumped back into a holding tank be used again later. The fibers, now on a screen, are pressed in matched polished molds that are precisely in the form factor of the desired product. With heat and pressure, the water is pressed and evaporated out of the fibers.

Product comes out of the molds dry and ready for shipping. Thermoformed Fiber has a wall thickness of 1.0-1.2mm.
